2021

COLORADO CHAPTER:

It was a great September Meeting in Grand Junction for the Chapter membership meeting, marketing session and networking reception/Cowboy auction.

The Education Session “PACKAGING ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS, CONSERVATION EASEMENTS & HISTORIC BUILDINGS FOR PROFIT” covered a wide range of issues.

  • Learn the real scoop on how to handle environmental issues to protect the seller, buyer, and the brokers.
  • Similarly, conservation easements can be misinterpreted and scare away some buyers, but if you know what it really means for your client’s land, you can be the expert and help your client find the perfect buyer.
  • Historic landmarking can also be a bit intimidating but will unlock hidden pots of money. If you know how to advise your sellers and buyers, a ranch with historic buildings can provide great financial value to either the buyer or the seller.

June 17 – 18 – ANNUAL RANCH TOUR – Glenwood Springs Area!  Properties in Rifle, Silt, Rulison and New Castle were part of this year’s tour.  It was a great tour and 60+ people were in attendance.  Thanks to Joey Burns, ALC, Eagle Land Brokerage for heading up the coordination of this years tour.

MAY was Wildfire Awareness Month! and our education session on Friday, May 7, was all about that: “Colorado Wildfires – Implications of  Land Values and Management “.   The course was approved for 5 hours of continuing education credit for real estate brokers and appraisers.

The RLI Colorado Chapter and the Colorado Chapter of the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers (ASFMRA) worked together to provide the comprehensive knowledge from speakers we knew would benefit members of both groups.

This class covered the extent of various wildfires in Colorado and the implications after the fires. Representatives from the Forest Service, BLM, an engineering company who has created post fire flood maps, a construction company familiar with post fire remediation and an appraiser reviewed a valuation study and the factors that can influence value loss. With the drought conditions in Colorado and wildfire season looming, this was vital and timely information.
